The Big Solar Co-op is our flagship solar project. Wherever you are in the UK we can help you to get co-operatively owned solar going in your region. We offer training for volunteers to learn how to find, assess and sign up new solar sites.
Our initial aims were to:
- Install 100MW of rooftop solar. Each year this will save nearly 40,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions and produce enough electricity to drive over 250 million miles by electric car.
- Engage 250 active volunteers across 25 local groups.
- Create 5 new sustainable jobs.
- Create ethical, accessible social investment opportunities raising £25m.
- Save over £300,000 annually on fuel bills for community buildings and social housing.
We’re making good progress towards our aims, with over 20 rooftop solar sites installed, an innovative low-carbon solar park on an ex-coalfield, and well over £4m raised in community shares and bonds.
