Sharenergy clients YnNi Newydd Cyf have launched their first share issue, targeting a minimum raise of £340,000 and up to £610,000, for a solar farm which straddles the Fintshire and Cheshire border.
The Bretton Hall Solar Farm, a pioneering community-owned project on 50 hectares of land, is the society’s first major undertaking. The land at Bretton Hall Farm will remain in agricultural use, continuing to support sheep grazing once the solar farm is operational. The vision is to create one of the largest community-owned renewable energy sites in the UK.
- Phase 1 (1.5 MWp): Scheduled for construction in 2026. This vital interim step will generate about 1,388 MWh annually, enough to power approx 350 homes and displace over 230 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. Its primary goals are to secure Welsh planning consent and clear development debt.
- Phase 2 (40 MWp): A much larger build-out starting no later than 2028 to secure English planning consent. It will be capable of supplying power to roughly 8,400 homes and is estimated to cut carbon emissions by 6,800 tonnes yearly. The scheme is forecast to generate more than £100 million in surplus over its 40 year life, all of which will be channelled into a dedicated community fund.
