Ludlow Community Hydro Group

This group is a temporary partnership of local organisations with a common interest in the potential of generating energy from Ludlow’s River Teme. The group has seven members, with local hydro enthusiasts alongside representatives from:
• Ludlow 21, the local “environmental” organisation, who are keen to see Ludlow developing its own renewable energy and providing a community lead on clean, green energy for the area.
• Ludlow Town Residents’ Association representing the interests of local residents.
• Teme Weirs Trust providing first-hand knowledge and experience from their work restoring the weirs and their ongoing responsibility for the management and maintenance of the weirs.
Sharenergy have provided information and advice to the group at each step.
The remit of the group is:
• To oversee the initial stages of the project and provide information to the officially constituted bodies (TWT and L21).This is a rolling remit which will unfold as each stage develops, the initial stage being participation in a feasibility study for 4 potential hydro projects in the West Midlands RRZ area.
• To liaise with Sharenergy on behalf of TWT and L21 re planning and implementation.
• To report progress on the project to interested parties (including owners both of the weirs and adjoining properties) and to local representative bodies (Ludlow Town Council and Ludford Parish Council). .
• To promote awareness of and information about the project to the local community and to recruit further support.

The feasibility study has been completed and the group is working on a detailed proposal for hydropower in Ludlow
